To continue our popular tours to the Queensland Art Gallery and the Gallery of Modern Art in Brisbane, I have arranged one tour per term in 2012.
Term 1. Monday 13 February.
Matisse: Drawing Life at the Gallery of Modern Art.
‘Matisse: Drawing Life’ is a major exhibition of works on paper by Henri Matisse and includes more than 300 drawings, prints and illustrated books. Presented in partnership with the Bibliotheque nationale de France, this will be the definitieve exhibition of works on paper by one of the twentieth century’s greatest artists. To complement the exhibition, GoMA’s Long Gallery will feature a large-scale drawing studio inspired by the art of Matisse and his working environments.
We will have Gallery guides to lead us through this exhibition. Later in the day we can enjoy Landscapes of Australian artist Eugene Von Guerard at QAG.
Term 2. Monday 14 May
Artworks by Degas, Renoir, Toulouse-Lautrec, Manet and Rodin show exclusively in Brisbane.
‘Modern Woman: Daughters and Lovers,’ from the Musee d’Orsay, Paris, is yet another international coup for the Queensland Art Gallery.
Through fascinating sketches and drawings, this exhibition at QAG will depict the attitudes to women and the radical transformation of their many roles, within late 19th century French society. At GoMA, ‘Contemporary Australia: Women’, the second in the Gallery’s series of contemporary Australian art exhibitions and curated by Queensland Art Gallery staff, will showcase new and recent work by emerging, established and senior female indigenous and non-indegnous artists from around Australia.
