Closing date:    15 June 2012. Entries with postmarks after this date will be ineligible.

Prose: 1 Short Story – Fiction (1,000 – 1,500 words)
  2 Autobiographical Incident (1,000 – 1,500 words)
  3 Challenge: There is only one left. Include this in the story or use as the title. (1,000 to 1,500 words)
 Poetry: 4 Free Verse (Up to 40 lines)
  5 Rhyming Poetry (20 to 40 lines)

Prizes:     First $150.00, Second $100.00, Third $75.00 – in each category

Entry Fee:    All entries are $5 each.

Anthology:    $5.00 including postage

Who can enter:    Members of any U3A and people who are retired or semi-retired and thus eligible to join U3A.

Conditions of Entry:
Entries must be printed in double spacing on A4 paper, one side only. The pages should be numbered and the title of the entry printed as a header on each page.
Please attach a cover sheet to each entry showing title, category and word or line count. Entrant’s name must not appear on the cover sheet or anywhere on the entry
Entries must not have been published previously and must not have won a prize in any other competition as at the closing date for entries.
Entrants must complete (including the word/line count) and sign the Entry Form and enclose this with the entry.
Please retain copies of entries as manuscripts will not be returned.
The joint decisions of the judges within each category are final. No correspondence will be entered into.

Anthology: If your work is chosen for inclusion, U3A SC will contact you prior to inclusion. There will be no payment to you for this. If you do not wish your work included please indicate on the Entry Form.

Judging:
Entries for this competition will be judged in each category by members of U3A Sunshine Coast and each entry will be read by three people. The top five in each category go to the five final judges.  Members will not judge categories in which they have entered work.
A judges’ report for each category will be made available after the competition.  If you wish to receive the judges’ report, please send a stamped, A5 self-addressed envelope* with the entry form.

Winning entries will be published in a souvenir Anthology which will be printed approximately three months after the closing date of the competition. You can obtain a copy of the anthology for $5.00 (including postage) in addition to the entry fee, to be paid at the time of entry. Please note that receipts are not being issued.
